A Catholic lay preacher has been acquitted in the death of a 73-year-old diabetic worshipper.
The woman died after allegedly stopping her medication, believing she was healed during a religious retreat.
But the Geneva Criminal Court ruled there was no proof the 59-year-old preacher promised healing.
The judge highlighted the deceased’s deep religious convictions and personal choices, stating her death wasn't directly caused by the accused.
After over 420 days in detention, the man will be compensated with over CHF 42,000 and his legal fees, of around CHF 60,000, will be paid by the state.
