Ritalin use soars

Ritalin use is soaring in Switzerland. The drug is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder – but maybe it now has an off-label use.

Two years ago, health insurance companies said more and more are taking the drug. The figures are now backed up with waste water analysis.

A report in yesterday’s SonntagsBlick newspaper says in 2017, 40,000 people had been prescribed the drug – now it’s 92,000.

But the water analysis shows a strange quirk – use seems to be much higher in Zurich than elsewhere.

That maybe due to the fact its now considered to be a party drug and students use it to help stay focused while studying.
