A monument to Russian troops who helped drive out Napoleon’s army from Switzerland in 1799, has been defaced.
Local police spotted it had had yellow and blue paint smeared on it – the colours of the Ukrainian flag
The memorial in Andermatt in canton Uri commemorates the march of the Russian Field Marshall Alexander Suvorov who led 21,000 men from Italy to battle Napoleon. Hundreds of Russians were killed.
The monument was built 100 years later.
