SBB slow down new projects

Switzerland's rail operator will now prioritise maintaining its existing network over building new lines, its new president André Wyss has said

SBB is carrying a CHF 9.5 billion backlog on renovations and a growing debt pile, even as politicians push ambitious projects like the Grimsel tunnel between Bern and Valais and a new underground station in Lucerne.

Wyss says that extending the network while the infrastructure decays "would make no sense" and that productivity gains are the group's clear priority
